Dystopia, as opposed toUtopia, is seemingly peaceful and full of uncontrollable social ills, such astotalitarian rule, class contradiction, loss of human nature... From theopposite of Utopia, it intends to show the social ills and the crisis thathuman beings may face in the future from the opposite of Utopia. Huxley’s Brave New Worldis such a dystopia work. Thesociety shown in Brave New World is most likely to make peopledegenerate and indulge in it. Staying away from pain, anxiety and sadnessforever seems pleasant. However, at the same time, it al so means we lose the real happinessand love. (于海涛,2018) This novel shows theharm brought to people in psychology and behavior in a highly centralizedsociety. And it displays the impact and destruction of social system onhumanity. At the same time, three main characters in different classes sufferedself-doubt and loneliness awakened in different condition. (Quina ,1962) Thecharacters’ methods in attempting to secure inner peace show Huxley’s attemptto find real inner peace and humanity in modern time.
The society in Brave New World, tosome extent, coincides with today''s society. We enjoy the convenience andbenefits brought by technology, consumerism and centralization, and the hiddencrisis is slowly eroding us as described in the novel. After the holiday, theworkers were intoxicated, and their dreams were far away. Although people''smaterial life has been improved, the emptiness and boredom on the mental alsoadapt to life, and people only pursuit sensory stimuli. We should be alert tothis tendency. The attempt in Brave newworld by Huxley inspired us to think about ourselves. We should ponder overwhat we are and how we remain the spiritual health in modern time. That''s themeaning of this novel, reminding us that we can''t relax all the time.
2. 研究内容和预期目标
Huxley showed a world thathuman beings exist completely for society. Science and technology are no longerservice human but become an effective means of control in human beings. The visionto perfect society turns into a pretext for totalitarianism, people graduallygive up their freedom, will and value of the individual, become the tool of thesociety. (于海涛,2018)Huxley, the author, criticized this kind of inverted order, put the focus on the dimension ofmodern people''s existence, focused on the living state of human beings, presents the plight of human existence, and discussed the gradually missinghumanity and spirit of contemporary people.
And then what Huxleywanted modern man to be searching for? The classic modernist declaration of thefragmented self: the notion of character as a ‘psychic battlefield’, and thatnature is elusive, indeterminate, multiple, often implausible, infinitelyvarious and essentially irreducible’, was one of Huxley’s crucial convictions. In Brave New World,Huxley described his understanding of humanity through his maincharacters in the book.
This paper attempts to analyze this novel from theperspective of humanity, it will focus on the main characters’ hard strugglingfor humanity under the illusive and depraved scientism society. In thisarticle, different characters are gradually aware of the ugly essence of thisbeautiful new world because of the pressure from different aspects. They pursuetheir disappeared human nature through their own means, and give out thehumanity shine in the process.

However, some scholarshave pointed out that this novel also contains Huxley’s expectation of human future.Bradshaw notes that Brave New World reflects both Huxley''s desire forsocial stability and hints at his ambivalence about science. On the one hand,he is worried about the rapid increase in population and the tendency ofdecline in quality. As the advent of mass society was a shock to democracy sohe favored the use of eugenics to control the population artificially. On theother hand, he feared that the extreme would lead to the death of civilizationand the stagnation of society.
With the development ofmodern media technology, modern media has gradually become the soma of modernpeople, and the cultural crisis is looming.
