A headline is the soul of the English News which is the brief summary of the News, and it can attract readers#8217; attention. A headline should be vivid, interesting. The most important function of a headline of English News is that the reader can get more information and the main ideas at a short time. We can apply some tropes to make it be fuller of wit and humor.

Because of the diversity of features of English news headline, I want to study the rhetoric specially to prove it that putting rhetoric to use can make headline more interesting and lively. And help readers how to use and understand powerful words, how to understand the heart and subject of news easily.

The present paper is an attempt to present some common rhetorical features can add touches to the context, strengthen the expression of the theme. In addition, it not only makes the news more interesting, but also increases the beauty of the journalistic language, which will definitely attract the readers#8217; attention. In this article, I focus on emphasizing several kinds of Rhetoric Features of English News Headlines, such as pun, Metaphor, Personification, Hyperbole and so on. The key issue addressed in this article is how to use figures of speech to make news headlines more interesting.

(国内）In 1998, A Study of the Rhetoric Features of English News Headlines was widely conducted in China, feng cuihua published English Rhetorical Options-a Handbook of English Rhetorical Devices which is the first book to discuss it. He used a lot of news in The Wall Street Journal as examples. Apart from him, more and more scholars begin to pay attention to the rhetorical features of English News Headlines. Their center theory is that the headline is to the news what an eye is to the person. Figures of speech are ways of making our language figurative. But I find that scholars at home are still faced with many problems.

（国外）Until the 1986s, many western countries have published a lot of book on the Rhetoric Features of English News Headlines.basette published the Art of Editing in 1990.He thought it that the headline need to summarize the storyas briefly and accurately as possible. Rhetoric devices can make news more interesting and lively. Many other scholars also study on it, they not only pay attention to the introduction of Rhetoric devices of English news headlines, but also combined with a large number of theory and Practice. In western countries, they did an experiment, they gave students a rhetorical news headline and a complex headline to read, most students firstly chose the rhetorical news headline. So the fact proved that a good headline will attract more readers.
