1. 研究目的与意义

Culture-loadedterms refer to items with specific cultural hue that can reflect a language’spronounced national color and distinct cultural personality in. culture-loadedterms are carriers of culture in language and serve as a means of culturalcommunication, indicating disparities in geographical environment, socialcustoms, religious beliefs and other intercultural aspects. Teahouse,one of the best dramatic works in Chinese literature, is renowned as anexcellent work for 'one line depicts one character'.(Ying Ruocheng,1999) It contains a plethora of culture-loaded terms with strong national andregional characteristics, embodying the changes of times and culturalconnotation. Guided by Eugene Nida''''s Functional Equivalence theory, this paperselects the translation version of Teahouse by Ying Ruocheng to sort outand analyze the culture-loaded terms in it. Its goal is to study thetranslation of culture-loaded terms in Teahouse from ecological,material, social, religious, linguistic aspects respectively to discuss thetranslation strategies suitable for culture-loaded terms and achieve functionalequivalence between the source text and the target text.

1. Literature Review on Culture-loaded terms

Languageis not only the carrier of culture, but also an important part of culture. Incultural life, human beings need language to create, record and spread civilization.Therefore, many researches have been conducted by linguists and scholars onculture-loaded terms.

Withthe acceleration of globalization, translation researches tend to concentratemore on cultural translation. In recent decades, there have been two distincttrends in translation studies. One is that translation theory is deeply brandedwith the imprint of communication theory. The other is the shift from languagetranslation to culture translation. As a result, the translation ofculture-loaded terms has become a hot topic of current research.
